Overview
This brief guide will provide instructions to create summaries for your sessions with Genie Summary, this feature applies also to imported recordings. We will cover, how to view single sessions' auto-generated Recaps in the Recordings tab, and then from the dedicated Summary tab we will see how to generate composite summaries for multiple sessions.
How to View the Recap of a Single Interview Session
Genie automatically generates recaps alongside the transcript of each session on the Recordings page. This applied to any recorded session or media upload.
You can access the Recordings page and locate the desired session. Alongside the transcript, you will find an automatically generated recap as shown in the image below.
How to Create Project Summaries
Before starting, ensure you meet the following criteria:
- You have the necessary project role permissions. If you don't find the Insights tab, refer to the Project Level Permissions article for more details on permissions.
- The Genie summary feature is activated for your project. If not, learn how to enable it here.
With the above in place, proceed as follows:
- Navigate to the Insights tab on your dashboard. Here, you'll find a dedicated sub-tab labeled "Summary".
- From your main dashboard or overview page, select the Insights tab and then click on the "Summary" sub-tab.
- Once on the summary page, you will be prompted to input the "Research Focus", which should detail the essence of your project. For best results, phrase your Research Focus to complete the statement: “My summary should focus on ...”
The research focus should include details about your project. To optimize results, frame your Research Focus to complete the statement: “My summary should focus on ... ”

You can click on the Save button, after entering the Research Focus:
On the right side of the screen, you will find a list of all your sessions. You can select which session or sessions to generate the summary for, and press the Summarize Transcripts button as shown in the image below:
Genie will take a short moment to Generate your summary:
Once you get your summary, you will have the following elements:
- The ability to rename the summary.
- The ability to download the summary.
- An overview of a short conversational summary containing a concise overview of the interviews.
- A highlight of the key themes and quotes from the sessions.
- The ability to rate the quality of your summary.
Note: The list of themes generated by Genie is an excellent way to see what the sessions had in common.
Language Limitations and Exclusions:
- The summaries are currently available only for transcripts in English. The functionality supports both sessions conducted entirely in English and sessions that involved a simultaneous translator and were subsequently translated into English.
- Keep in mind that any recordings from the Personal Meeting Room will not be included in the summary generation process.
- Deleting a session recording will delete all related summaries to that session.
