Before participating to an Interview, we strongly recommend completing an ATC
System Requirements
The platform is web-based and can be accessed with
- Supported Browser: Google Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Safari.
- It is recommended to join your interviews with a headset/microphone, to avoid any echo during the discussion.
For more information, please refer to our Full System Requirements.
Joining a Live Interview on Desktop
Please join the room 15 minutes before the scheduled start time. If the study includes Live Support, we will help ensure your audio, video, and connection are suitable before the discussion.
- Click the link ending with /d in your email, enter your name and email, and then continue.
- You will be redirected to a page where you will choose your audio and video input, it's important to allow Discuss to access the camera and mic in this step.
- You'll then enter the waiting room. Please remain in the waiting room until a support agent or a project member allows you into the meeting room. If your camera is enabled at that point, it will be open upon entry into the meeting room
- You can also keep an eye on the chat feature that will appear on the top right corner of the screen when someone engages you by chat.
If mobile screen sharing is required from the discuss, please follow the instructions in the waiting room to download the Discuss app.
Joining an Interview on Mobile
If mobile devices/tablets are allowed for the study, you'll be able to use your mobile device to join the meeting room. All features of the Interactive Meeting Room are available on mobile, except for desktop screen sharing.
- When entering the meeting as a respondent, you will be prompted to complete the 'Welcome to Interview page' and share your name, email, and optional phone number to identify your arrival.
- Upon pressing 'Continue', you agree to the platform's Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
- You must then allow your browser to access your camera/microphone to participate in the conversation when prompted.
- Next, you'll complete a device and connection tech check to test your device and connection. If you don't make any changes or press 'Continue', you'll automatically move to the respondent waiting room after 7 seconds.
While in the waiting room, moderators and live support agents will have the ability to direct chat with you.
Dial-In with your Phone
If you are having an audio issue with your headset or computer, you can dial yourself into the meeting and use your phone handset as your mic.
- You must have a web session open, which means you must have accessed the live meeting using a link like this: https://app.discuss.io/123456/d. Enter your name, email address, and telephone number.
- On the device settings page, select the "Call me" option under Audio and then select your country, enter your number if necessary, and click the "Call me" button.
- You will receive a call on your device. Answer the call and enter the PIN you see from the lower right corner of the device settings modal.
If you have already joined the room, you can follow these same instructions by clicking on the device settings button in the lower right corner of the page.
Wrong Camera is Selected When Joining a Room
If you have multiple cameras on your device, there is a chance that the platform will pick the first one in the hardware list, which may not be the one you want.
You can decide which camera to use in your Device Settings, which appears as you are joining the live meeting room. Your available cameras appear in a dropdown prior to joining a session.
You may need to refresh your browser after the change.
Blurred Background Feature
Before joining a live session, you can select your video devices and opt to blur your background. This feature is essential for maintaining impartiality, objectivity, and privacy—especially crucial in healthcare research. This feature works for Chromium browsers (Chrome and Edge) and NOT with non-chromium-based browsers like Safari or on IOS.
Blurred backgrounds provide a customized interview experience that enables the privacy of any background content. Mitigate worries regarding personal identifying information (PII) in the background by easily concealing it with the click of a button. You can also access the blurred background feature through the settings cog during the session to make real-time adjustments. Every change is reflected in the recording, transparently showing when the background was blurred or revealed.
Best Practices
- Join with the same set-up you used for tech check (same device, headset/mic, and webcam) to ensure everything works on your end.
- Restart your computer before you join to close any other competing apps that may be running in the background. Some apps consume valuable bandwidth or can block your audio/video source.
- Use an updated Chrome browser (preferred) and COPY/PASTE the link from your email.
- Join at least 15 minutes early or at the time you are directed by your recruiter so the support agent can verify your system requirements and brief you on the process.
- Use headphones with a microphone to optimize audio.
- Close any apps, other browsers, or non-Discuss.io browser tabs you may have open.
- Remove other devices in the area from the wifi network (phones, tablets, laptops, Rokus, Chromecasts, etc)
- Make sure there is no other streaming or downloading taking place on your wifi network.
