Discuss' polling feature enhances engagement by allowing you to pose single or multiple-choice questions to participants during sessions.
Project owners & editors can create polls in the project portal, enabling quantitative data collection and trend analysis for your Qual Research. Poll responses are downloadable, and you can label polls for easy reference during the sessions.
- Polls can be created by Project Owners & Editors
- Collaborators can view the polls created in the Project Portal
- In the meeting room, Moderators, Observers & Translators can view results in real-time
Create Interview Polls
- Polls cannot be created or edited in the 'Meeting Room', but can be created or edited in real-time in your Project Portal. Once the new question is saved, you can refresh your browser, and the new question will appear in your list of polling questions in the 'Meeting Room'.
- Label each question to streamline organization during poll launch and result identification on the insights page. Labels are not visible to participants to maintain confidentiality.
- Launching the same question in different interviews requires duplicating the question. If you relaunch the same poll question, you will lose all previous data collected within that interview.
Instructions
-
Choose your project.
-
Scroll down to the "Interview Materials" section on the bottom right of the "Overview" tab in your project portal.
-
Click on "Polls."
-
On the left panel, hit "+ New Poll."
-
You can give your poll a name if you like, but it won't be visible to respondents.
-
Type your question.
-
Choose your response type. We currently offer single-select and multi-select options. Single-select questions have circle choices, while multi-select has squares.
-
If you want, you can randomize choices for participants to avoid bias in responses.
When creating and adding additional responses, your poll will always keep aggregating the initial response data to compare, and any new additions will also be added to that aggregate information. You can also always switch the order of the responses or delete them at any point.
- It is important to note, that this section of the platform is the only section in which you can edit polls. If you add/edit polls during a session, you will need to refresh your browser to see the edits before launching a poll. If the poll is live, everyone in the meeting room will need to refresh their page to see the changes.
Duplicate Interview Polls
- To duplicate a poll, click on the "+" option at the top right of the poll modal.
- Consider labeling your polls if you want to keep them the same when duplicating.
- Before leaving the page, remember to save your poll to avoid losing any information.
Delete Interview Polls
To delete a poll, you can start by navigating to the interview prep section of your project.
- Click on the "Polls" section.
- You'll see all the polls created for that project.
- Find the poll you want to delete, then click the small bin button at the top right of the poll modal. The poll will be removed from the list immediately.
-
After deleting a poll in the interview prep > poll section, all related results of that poll will be deleted with it.
Launch Interview Polls
When you are ready to launch your poll, hit a launch button to get it started. You do not need to be recording a session to capture any data.
Instructions
- In the Interactive Meeting Room, locate the poll below the chat panel by its graphic icon.
- Click "Launch" to initiate the poll, allowing participants to answer.
- As participants respond, only moderators, observers, and translators will view real-time results along with participant names for each response.
- Optionally, moderators can reveal the final results to respondents by clicking "Show results to respondents". Once the poll is completed, click "End Poll" at the top right of the panel.
- To view full results for that question, expand or minimize the results using the arrow in the top right corner of your polling list.
If you click the 'Launch' button on a poll already used in your interview, a warning message will appear, asking if you want to proceed with relaunching the poll. Be aware that relaunching the same poll will clear the original data collected, replacing it with new participant responses. It's best to duplicate polls instead.
