This overview provides information on the Personal Meeting Room (PMR), a virtual meeting room that functions almost exactly like a live meeting room. The PMR is available on the overview page of the project, and it allows users to record, chat, and test the stim.
Personal Meeting Room
You have a personal meeting room available for Testing or Onboarding Project Members. It is a personalized meeting room URL available for all projects on Discuss at no charge. The URL is not editable and is based on your project name. Examples of how you can take advantage of your PMR is:
- Meeting with Moderators, Team members, and clients for Onboarding, Briefing, or Platform Training
- Testing your Interview Materials such as stimuli, discussion guide, and interview polls
- Debriefs between interviews to regroup on learnings and make adjustments to the discussion guide
You cannot schedule an interview for your personal meeting room. To start a conversation, simply click the Join Room link on your project's Overview page.
To invite colleagues, click the Copy Link button and send it to colleagues.
Roles in the Personal Meeting Room
- Moderator - If you are the project owner or a collaborator, and you are logged in, you will join the personal meeting room in the Moderator role.
- Respondent - If you are not logged in, or do not have access to the project, you will join as a Respondent.
- Observer - Once you are in the personal meeting room you can change your role to the observer.
- Note you will not be seen or heard by anyone.
- Translator - Users in the personal meeting room can also try out the translator role. The only requirement is that the user must login to a Discuss.io account to get access to the role.
*Note* you must enable the translator option on the overview page in order to test the translator role. This will only go into effect for future personal meeting room sessions.
Changing Roles in a Meeting
Once you are in the meeting room, you can click on the "Test Different Role" button on the bottom right of the screen to jump around the different roles. Users not logged in will be asked to login or create an account to try out the Moderator or Translator roles.

Regular room VS personal meeting room
- Usage limits - The personal meeting room can only be used 10 times during a project.
- Scheduling - Personal meeting rooms cannot be scheduled. A meeting room is created when the link is clicked.
- Respondent management - There is no respondent management support in personal meeting rooms. Respondents cannot be scheduled for these sessions and there are no respondent profiles available. We do not support incentive payments in personal meeting rooms.
- Live tech support - There is no live tech support available in personal meeting rooms.
Users will have access to their project's personal meeting room when in the final stages of confirming feasibility and logistics. This is to ensure timely training and onboarding of new team members. The personal meeting room will remain available through the last scheduled interview, after which time it becomes disabled.
