Overview
This article summarizes how you can test your camera and microphone from the device settings page after logging in to the meeting room.
Device Settings
On the left side of the Device Settings modal is the video setting. Select your video device, if necessary. If you can see yourself, then your camera is working with our platform:
On the right side of the modal is the audio setting. Select the microphone you wish to use. If you speak into your microphone and the triangle next to the device name lights up pink then your microphone is working with our platform:
You can also test your camera and microphone before joining your session by using the pre-call test with our WebRTC provider. If your camera and microphone are working correctly with WebRTC, you will see and hear yourself here.
Blurred Background Feature
You can select your video devices and opt to blur your background. This feature is essential for maintaining impartiality, objectivity, and privacy—especially crucial in healthcare research. This feature works for Chromium browsers (Chrome and Edge) and NOT with non-chromium-based browsers like Safari or on IOS.
Blurred backgrounds provide a customized interview experience that enables the privacy of any background content. Mitigate worries regarding personal identifying information (PII) in the background by easily concealing it with the click of a button. You can also access the blurred background feature through the settings cog during the session to make real-time adjustments. Every change is reflected in the recording, transparently showing when the background was blurred or revealed.
If they are not working, try these troubleshooting options to help correct any impaired devices:
-
Use/install/update to the latest version of Chrome (preferred), Firefox, or Edge.
-
Restart your computer and access the link again.
-
Remove any other devices on your wifi connection (phones, tablets, etc)
-
Completely close any other browsers or programs (Skype, Zoom, Teams) that may also be accessing the camera and microphone.
-
Record your video with wired headphones/earbuds with a microphone -- do not use BlueTooth headphones.
-
At the top of your browser in the address bar, you should find a webcam or a lock symbol. Click it to allow and/or select your microphone and camera. This should allow our site access.
-
Open an Incognito window in Chrome or an InPrivate window in Firefox/Edge and COPY then PASTE the link into the new browser.
-
Try again on a different browser. Chrome and Firefox are free and easy to download.
-
Refresh your page at any time.
-
Use an Ethernet cable to wire directly into your modem/router.
