Self-paced activities now supports translation and localization features that make it easier to design, launch, and analyze studies across multiple languages. This article explains how task translation works, how to duplicate activities for new markets, and what researchers can expect.
Researcher’s perspective
Task Setup
- Use clear naming that indicates the market and language. For example: “Mobile App Test – France – FR”. This helps when reviewing responses later.
- Welcome messages and instructions should be written in the respondent’s native language. These are not translated automatically.
Additionally, to ensure the translation is at its most accurate portrayal, instructing the respondents in the task to also include an optional recap of what they said in the video submission will set the researcher up for success when looking to review the material they receive back when translated.
Task Translation
Task Translation lets you translate activity content into the selected respondent's language with one click.
- Translate tasks, screeners, and invites.
- If you change the respondent language, a new translation option appears.
- When you edit the source text, you can re-translate to update content.
- Review and refine AI-generated translations before launch.

Duplicate Activities Within a Project
You can duplicate a Self-Paced activity to quickly create a copy of an existing setup. The duplicate includes tasks, screeners, criteria, and settings, and excludes respondents and their responses. After duplication, the activity is fully editable.
- Recommended workflow: create the study in the base language (ex: English), duplicate it, then use Task Translation to localize for the target language needed.
- This saves time, reduces errors, and keeps activities consistent across markets.

Duplicate Activities Across Projects
Researchers can now duplicate self-paced activities across projects within their organization. This makes it easier to reuse tasks, settings, and participant criteria for multi-market studies.
When creating a new activity, researchers can import an existing one from another project they have access to. The copied activity includes all original setup details except screeners, which cannot be duplicated at this time. Once imported, the activity is fully editable before launch, helping teams save time, reduce setup effort, and maintain consistency across related projects.
Activity Settings
- Set the Respondent Language to automatically produce an English transcript for video and text responses.
- Make sure respondents actually respond in the language you set. Using a different spoken language may cause processing issues.
Translated Responses
- For non-English responses, you will see both the native-language transcript and a machine-generated English transcript.
- Use the language toggle in the transcript panel to switch views.
Editing Transcripts
- Transcript editing is available in the native-language view.
- The keyword cloud in the By Task view is generated from the English transcript.
Interview Agent and Translation
The Interview Agent is an AI moderator that interacts with respondents inside Self-Paced activities. It asks probing follow-ups based on the respondent’s answers and adapts in real time.
- After you localize your activity, AI-led tasks work in supported languages, and responses can be viewed with the English transcript toggle.
- For setup and best practices, see Using the Interview Agent.
- To preview what respondents see in an AI-led conversation, see the Respondent experience with Interview Agent.
Respondent’s Perspective
- Respondents complete tasks in the language set for the activity. Translation and English transcripts are provided to researchers during review. Here is a step-by-step guide Self-Paced Activities for Research Respondent for respondent to answer and submit each self-paced task type.
