Have more questions? Submit a request

Discuss empowers Project Owners, Editors & Collaborators to tailor the meeting room experience for Live Qual Research.

Whether you need to blur interview recordings for privacy, anonymize respondent names, or manage device access, this article offers comprehensive guidance on all project settings available.

Access Project Settings

To access your project settings, you can simply log in to your Discuss account & select your project from your Dashboard. A settings button will then be located on the top right of your Researcher Hub.

Any change to the project settings will be applied to all interviews within your project.

  • If you're an organization admin and would like to set organization settings to ensure privacy and security settings are applied for all projects within your organization, click here.

Blur Interview Recordings

Choosing to blur recordings can help for interviews with highly sensitive information or when complying with industry regulations. This privacy feature is readily accessible in every Discuss project.

However, it's crucial to note that once a recording is blurred, it cannot be reversed. While project members can deactivate the setting as needed, it's important to understand that already blurred videos cannot be undone.

Instructions

You can start by navigating to your project settings page, by clicking on the "Settings" button located on the top right corner of the screen.

  1. Under Privacy & Security Settings tick the box next to Blur Interview Recordings. Recordings will be saved with a permanent blur over the entire video.
  2. Click "Yes, Blur future Recordings"

    • This feature must be turned on before an interview starts, once anonymized, a recording cannot be reversed. The setting can be turned off at any time by project members, and future recordings in that project will not be anonymized
    • For blurred recordings, stimuli will also be blurred. However, whiteboard snapshots will be saved without blur.
    • Blur Recordings is automatically enabled for Interviews in Germany
    • If needed, you can anonymize individual recordings retroactively

Blur Only the Participant Stream

Discuss allows anonymization by way of blurring recordings. This is to ensure the privacy of the participant within the session and, in Germany, is required for GDPR compliance.

In project setup, researchers can choose to blur the entire recording or blur the participant stream only. This can also be changed later on in the project settings. Blurring the participant stream only means that any stimuli shared during the session (including uploaded stim, mobile screen share, or desktop screen sharing) will remain visible in the recording.

Note: In Germany, the participant stream will still be blurred by default, but researchers can choose to keep stimuli visible by selecting "Blurr Participant Stream Only"

Use Pseudonyms

By default, respondents can join interviews using only their first name. However, if you prefer to keep respondent names private in the meeting room and recordings, the pseudonym feature is the solution.

Rather than asking respondents to input an alias or other information, simply enable pseudonym from your project settings. This anonymizes respondent names for moderators and respondents in the meeting room.

Instructions

You can start by navigating to your project settings page, by clicking on the "Settings" button located on the top right corner of the screen.

  1. Under Privacy and Security settings locate "Use Pseudonyms"
  2. Click inside the checkbox to enable the use of pseudonyms. You will be met with an informational pop-up. Click "Yes, Anonymize Names"

    • Names will now be replaced with automatically assigned pseudonyms for moderators and respondents.
    • Use of Pseudonym is automatically enabled for Interviews in Germany
    • Having this feature enabled will automatically assigned pseudonyms e.g. Moderator #1, Panelist #1, Panelist #2, etc.

Voice Modulation

Voice Modulation is a feature that allows you to apply high-pitch or low-pitch voice alteration on the recording of all future sessions on your project.

Please note that all previous sessions' audio will remain normal. Only sessions that occur after this has been enabled will have the voice alterations applied.

Instructions

  1. To enable Voice Modulation, please contact our support team
    • Once the voice has been modulated in an interview recording, it cannot be reversed
    • Blur Interview Recordings must also be enabled
    • Voice Modulation doesn't impact the Live Meeting Room experience, it only applies to the recording

Limit Access to PII

If enabled, Project Owners, Editors & Collaborators will only be able to see the personal identifying information (PII) of the email & phone numbers of respondents they added to the Respondent Hub.

If you use our Global Recruitment service, this setting will automatically be enabled and will not appear in your project settings.

Instructions

You can start by navigating to your project settings page and clicking on the "Settings" button on the screen's top right corner.

  1. Under Frequently Used Settings locate "Limit Access to PII"
  2. Click on the slider to enable Limit Access to PII.

    • Once this feature has been enabled you will also be able to see details about when this was enabled and by who. As well as when the feature was disabled and by whom.

Hide Tech Check Images

To limit Observers' access to PII, the tech checks images of respondents can be hidden in the meeting room. Once enabled observers will not be able to see tech check videos from respondents ensuring there is no access to any PII for your clients.

Instructions

You can start by navigating to your project settings page, by clicking on the "Settings" button located on the top right corner of the screen.

  1. Under Observer Settings locate "Hide Tech Check Image"
  2. Click inside the checkbox to enable the "Hide Tech Check Image" feature.

Restrict Observer Audio

Restrict observers' audio in live sessions with simultaneous translators.

With this setting enabled, observers will ONLY be able to hear the translated audio during interviews. They will not have the option to listen to the session in the respondents' native language.

Instructions

  1. Navigate to your project dashboard. Access the settings page of your project
  2. Under Observer Settings locate "Restrict Observer Audio" and click inside the checkbox to enable the "Restrict Observer Audio" feature.

Gen AI/Genie Summaries

Only individuals and organizations who have purchased Genie can access this setting. Genie can be purchased either at the organizational level or the project level.

When this feature is enabled on your project, it will allow the project owner, editor, and collaborator to easily generate composite summaries of live interviews within your project.

To find out more about this feature and how to use it feel free to check out this article: Create Summaries for Your Sessions with Genie Summary

Instructions

You can start by navigating to your project settings page, by clicking on the "Settings" button located on the top right corner of the screen.

  1. Navigate to the project settings on the top right of your Project Dashboard

Medical Transcription

Using the Medical Transcription project-level setting, researchers can indicate that the sessions within their project are medical/healthcare-related. This triggers the AI to listen for medical and healthcare-related words, codes, and acronyms, leading to less time spent editing transcripts post-processing.

Note: This feature can be used in conjunction with Custom Vocabulary Lists.

How to use Medical Transcription

  • Go to Project Settings.
  • Click the checkbox to enable Medical Transcription.

Notes about Custom Vocabulary

  • Affects Live, Self-Captures, and uploaded recordings.
  • The setting has to be enabled before sessions are conducted and will only affect future sessions. Past transcripts will not be reprocessed automatically.
  • The setting can be enabled and disabled at any time.

Benefits of Medical Transcription

  • Improved Recognition of Specialized Terms: Enhances the transcription accuracy of medical and healthcare terminology.
  • Customization Without Full Model Training: Allows for targeted improvements in transcription accuracy without requiring extensive model retraining.
